What’s all the worry about being controlled by AI? Anyone with a wider outlook can see how we’re doomed unless something more dependable than humans is in control. Oh, we’re dependable, all right. We’ve always used our best technology; eventually, to destroy each other. Very rarely has any great leader or power had the common interest of everyone at heart, and not judge by race, wealth, nationality, or religion.

                If an all-encompassing AI were in control, would we still be killing Jews because they didn’t think one of their prophets, some two thousand years ago, was a Greek god? Would we still be drilling for oil if we knew burning it was leading to climate disaster? Would any of our wars be started? Would Trump or Hitler have come to power? Would a few of us have more money and control than half of the world’s people? Would any people starve? To continue in this world, we simply must have something in power besides people who seek power, something that can see the bigger picture over a longer time than a few decades. We’ve gotten two smart for ourselves. As Einstein said and feared, we still have the wisdom of a caveman but the ability of Titans.

                Of course, AI would be problematic. But humanity is even more so. We know this. AI, with humans backing it up and taking complaints, is the only way we will survive. I’m hopeful for the future only because of this possibility. Being free to kill ourselves is too heavy a price to pay. We will only survive if we humans truly become One. And we will not do this on our own. We are spiritually too small and limited.
